A very quick update post.  NASA has just posted an article about a recent study which has been conducted into how stars are formed in giant star clusters.  In the past, it had been assumed that gravity caused the gas to contract in on itself, which in turn caused the gas to compress and heat up eventually igniting the stars.  In somewhat of a U-turn this paper now suggests that it is, in fact, the magnetic fields and turbulent plasma which plays a much greater role in the formation of stars.  The fact that these NASA scientists are looking at models other than gravity and more specifically electrically driven events is very exciting!
